DETAILS OF THE OFFER

Working place:  Aix-Marseille Université

Missions:

The Commute project is fully funded by the ANR (main French funding agency) and aims, in collaboration with the PRISM laboratory (CNRS & Aix-Marseille Univ), Airbus and Stellantis, at identifying sensory feedback-based solutions to facilitate human actions. While the ultimate goal is to provide an interface to facilitate driving a car and piloting an aircraft, the proposed part of the project is to conduct basic science to determine the role of visual, proprioceptive, tactile and auditory cues in the control of voluntary actions.

The PhD student will work with researchers, engineers and technicians plus a postdoctoral fellow, and will be expected to survey the literature, propose hypotheses and experiments to the team, run experiments with human participants, analyze the collected data, propose figures and interpretations, present work to the team and to peers at local, national and international events/conferences, and write manuscripts for publication.

Qualifications:

The applicant should hold (or be in the process of completing) a Masters degree or equivalent in (experimental) psychology, (cognitive) neuroscience, (human) motor control, or biology.

Applicants from other relevant backgrounds in (biomedical) engineering, physics or computing science will also be considered provided they demonstrate additional qualifications in any of the previously mentioned area(s).

Previous experience in (human) experimentation and data processing, statistical analysis, writing reports and presenting is required.

It is essential that applicants are sufficiently qualified in mathematics/engineering/physics to undertake quantitative analysis of movement based on motion tracking. They should demonstrate skills in data analysis and/or programming (e.g. Matlab).

Soft skills: Curiosity, Analytical and critical thinking, Teamwork, Autonomy, Listening and observing, Flexibility and adaptability. The applicant should have excellent organizational skills, be highly motivated and enjoy working in a collaborative research environment. The applicant should also be able to communicate effectively in English, with evidence of strong scientific writing skills. The ability or desire to speak French is a plus considering the experiments with human participants.
