DETAILS OF THE OFFER

Working place:   "neural circuits and motor control" team at NeuroPSI

Missions:

We are looking for a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead a project on the organization of descending motor pathways in the brainstem. Our research focuses on the cooperative roles of the brainstem and spinal cord in the development of integrated and adaptive motor behaviors. We focus on locomotion, a vital motor function whose fundamental principles are well-conserved between species. Using the mouse model, we deploy multidisciplinary approaches and concepts interfacing developmental neurobiology, neural connectivity, and the study of behavior. Our methods include ex-vivo electrophysiology, in vivo optogenetics and functional imaging, virus-based circuit tracings, and immunohistochemistry.

Main missions include:

  • Planning of crosses of mouse lines
  • Injections of viral tracers in mice
  • implementation of in-vivo calcium imaging techniques
  • histology and microscopy
  • analysis of in-vivo behavior and motor skills
  • Literature review and data compilation
  • Scientific communication (drafting of scientific publications, participation in conferences)

Side missions include:

  • co-supervision of interns (Master, thesis)

Qualifiactions:

Desired level of education : Niveau 8 - (Doctorat)
Experience required : 1 to 4 years

Conceptual skills:

  • Doctoral thesis on the nervous system.
  • Knowledge of the neural control of movements and the organization of the brainstem and spinal cord.

Experimental skills:

  • work on rodents, ideally genetically modified mouse lines
  • stereotaxic surgery and viral tools for studying nerve connectivity and function
  • behavioral and kinematic analysis
  • histology, fluorescence microscopy
  • IT tools (data processing, and ideally Matlab, R, or Python programming)

Soft skills:

  • curiosity, critical thinking
  • teamwork, mutual aid and solidarity
  • fluent in French or English
