Post-doctoral fellow (m/f) Full-time (38 hours/week)
Description of the project The overall aim of our research is to elucidate the hormonal and genetic mechanisms underlying the sexual differentiation of the brain using transgenic mice. This particular project has as main goal the unravel the neuronal network controlling female sexual behavior by using a combination of cutting edge techniques such as optogenetics, stereotaxic virus injections, pharmacosynthetics (DREADD), monosynaptic circuit tracing (e.g. modified rabies virus strategy) and various Cre-expressing transgenic mouse lines. Requirements We are looking for an excellent, motivated post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in behavioral neuroscience and who has experience working with transgenic mouse models and stereotaxic surgeries. Good writing skills and publications in high impact journals are expected. The candidate should not have been living or working in Belgium before to be eligible for the fellowship since it is meant to promote international research mobility.
Appointment The position is for 1 year. Starting date: October 2022
Location The GIGA is a major center for research and development in biotechnology and is one of a very few centers in Europe that have excelled at integrating academic research, collaborations with companies, technology transfer and training facilities. The GIGA Neurosciences unit aims at carrying out top-level research on development, normal functions, and disorders of the nervous system.
