The Paris-based Vision Institute is a dynamic research center that comprises internationally recognized groups focusing on development of treatments and technological innovations to prevent and cure visual impairment.
The postdoc will work with research assistants and scientists in the group led by Olivier Goureau, who is developing human iPS cell-based strategies for cell replacement and retinal degenerative disease modeling. The project aims at developing a new approach combining optogenetics and stem cell-based therapy for vision restoration. The postdoc will be responsible for generating fluorescently labeled and optogenetically-modified iPS cells using CRISPR/Cas9 system, differentiating these into photoreceptor precursors, and testing the efficiency of engineered iPS-derived photoreceptors in animal models of retinal degeneration.
Highly motivated scientists with a strong interest in stem cell-based therapy in neurodegenerative diseases are encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a PhD in Life Sciences with a solid expertise in molecular and cellular biology. Experience with stem cell cultures is desirable and in vivo experience would also be appreciated. Organizational skills strong writing and oral communication skills will be needed. The candidate should have demonstrated innovation, initiative, problem-solving attitude, and ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team. Working languages will be English and French. Salary will be in accordance with the University scale, depending on experience.
