Postdoc (m/f/d) | Social Systems and Circuits

Scientist Frankfurt | AM Main | Neurosciences

Job Offer from February 15, 2022

The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a vibrant research institution in basic biological and medical research, with a focus on understanding the functions of the brain’s circuits. Our institute has approx. 300 employees in three research departments and four research groups, as well as several service units.

A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the newly established “Social Systems and Circuits” research group led by Dr. Alison Barker, initially limited to two years.

About the lab

Our research group is interested in understanding how vocal communication shapes social interactions. We are especially interested in the neural circuit mechanisms that evolved to selectively filter and produce social cues. We are studying these questions on a genetic, molecular, behavioral and computational level using the naked mole-rat as a model system.

Your profile

We are searching for a creative, highly motivated individual with a strong quantitative background. Ideal candidates will have:

PhD in Neuroscience or a related field

Expertise in in vivo calcium imaging and/or in vivo electrophysiology

Strong quantitative and programming skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

A highly collaborative and creative work atmosphere with employment including all benefits of the public service and several other benefits like:

Company health management (e.g. company doctor, sports offers)

Compensation is in accordance with the TVöD (German public service) salary scale. Social benefits correspond to those of the public service.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of women, individuals from historically underrepresented groups and individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore expressly encourages applications from such qualified persons.
