The Development & Environment Interface Team, headed by Valérie Mezger is a founding team of the Centre of Epigenetics and Cell Fate at Université de Paris (Grands Moulins Campus, Paris). We plan to recruit a highly motivated postdoc, to join a new project: Deciphering the contribution of stress responsive pathways in the shaping of the pathophysiological development of the brain cortex, using patient-based organoid models Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) affect ~10% of children and are a source of lifelong handicap.
NDDs are characterized by high variability of the clinical picture, even when a genetic cause has been identified, which has hampered the development of therapeutic strategies. A great need exists in the field for a shift of paradigm to identify and develop new treatments by bridging the gap between fundamental and clinical research. Recent research progress has shown that, despite their heterogeneity, NDDs share common pathomechanisms of which abnormal activity of stress-responsive pathways. Based on this conceptual frame, the overarching aim of the postdoc project will be to decipher the contribution of stressresponsive pathways to the shaping of NDD neurodevelopment defects in patient-based disease models, as a paradigm of NDD pathomechanisms, to foster therapy development.
The candidate will have a strong background in mammalian neurodevelopment.
